Chetna is a voluntary organization founded in 1964 by Mrs. S. Kamal who was a pioneer in this field in the state of Uttar Pradesh at a time when India was just awakening to the cause of the mentally challenged.
Having begun modestly from a school of 2 rooms, it has widely expanded and today is the premier institution of the state for the welfare of the handicapped.

After over five decades of its journey towards excellence in the service delivery has been facilitated by its value-based vision, clarity and quality in its mission, string leadership fortified with conviction and commitment of multi-disciplinary team and kind patronage of innumerable service users.

Vocational and Sheltered Workshops

Both Boys and Girls are included in this group. Boys are taught Candle Making, Weaving, and Spinning etc. While the girls are taught clothes, shopping bags, napkins, table mats manufacturing etc. The Vocational Group is also paid a decent stipend.

Management And Administration

All the powers of the Administration, Management, Supervision, Conduct of the programmes, Collection & utilization of funds and Maintenance of accounts are vested in the Executive Committee of the institute which has 15 members.

Specialized Professionals

The Institute has evolved out of urgent need for more broadly qualified personnel to work with children with physical, mental and emotional disabilities in degree from minimal to severe. Our experts are well experienced to help children learn and evolve.

Our Finances

There are two source of finance of the Institute, the first is the Grant-in-Aid by the Government of India and the other is 'DONATION' We receive a annual grant under Deen Dayal Disabled Rehabilitation Scheme for Ministry of social justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India.

Our Institute is simulated in the heart of the city at Sector "C" Aliganj, Lucknow and is spread over an area of 60,000 Sq. Ft. of land.
The whole complex has not only the halls, classrooms, hostel etc. but also a well maintained play ground for the childrens of the institute. We also have well equipped air conditioned physiotherapy lab, several computer labs for the M.R. children and Vani-Prada children.

To identify and work alongside the economically and socially deprived, the physically and mentally challenged - starting with children, so that they become educated, skilled and aware. Oue motive is to make them self-reliant and enjoy a healthy, dignified and sustainable quality of life.
